  • Abandoned in the Abyss, a local metal band, is organizing a coat and food drive through InnerBeast that will accept canned, dry and non-perishable foods along with clean coats, socks, gloves and undergarments through the New Year. Donation sites are available in Meridian and Boise + local businesses are invited to join and help those in need.  KBOI

  • Raising Cane's opened its first Idaho location in Meridian on November 18 at 2712 N. Eagle Rd.—The popular chicken finger chain now offers local residents a new dining option.  KBOI

CRIME NEWS

  • On Monday morning, a deputy from the Ada County Sheriff's Office found a friendly cat hiding in the engine block of his Tahoe during routine job checks and moved it to the Idaho Humane Society for a possible reunion with its owner — a reminder that cats sometimes seek warmth in engines this time of year.  KBOI
  • Michael Smith—48 of Eagle and former corporate executive—pleaded guilty to insider trading after using confidential information to profit about $145,754.69 from a stock sale related to a 2024 corporate acquisition.  Local News 8

  • Boise River Enhancement Network volunteers removed 1,586 pounds of trash from the Boise River across ten cleanup events in 2025 — the nonprofit works to improve the river's ecological health.  KBOI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Boise City Council oversaw a ceremony on Tuesday evening when veteran Aaron Hummel took over as Fire Chief for the Boise Fire Department—he has served since 1995. Mayor Lauren McLean announced his appointment in late October—marking a new era in city leadership.  KBOI
  • The Idaho State Police is recognizing Crash Responder Safety Week from November 17 to November 21 and urging drivers to slow down and move over for emergency responders. The 2025 theme—Safety Starts With You, Slow Down and Move Over—calls on motorists to follow Idaho law and help keep responders safe.  Local News 8
  • Idahoans can purchase $10 Christmas tree permits that allow one tree per family to be cut on designated BLM-managed public lands in southeastern Idaho through December 24 — permits are available online or at the Pocatello Field Office Monday through Friday from 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. — residents must obey area restrictions.  Local News 8
  • The Idaho Army National Guard rescued a stranded hiker in Custer County after severe food poisoning left him too weak to continue hiking. The UH-60M Black Hawk helicopter hoisted him — along with his dog and two rescue team members — to Gowen Field where he was reunited with his family.  Local News 8

HEALTH NEWS

  • Leapfrog Group's Fall 2025 report shows that four Idaho hospitals earned an A safety rating out of 14 evaluated before winter's busy season — experts used panels from top institutions. The report highlights that other facilities received lower grades and must improve patient protection.  KIDO
