COMMUNITY NEWS

BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Nordstrom Rack opens its second Treasure Valley store today at 9:00 a.m. at 2260 N Eagle Road in Meridian, offering shoppers up to 70 percent off on top brands as part of an expansion announced last year. KIDO
- ➤ Walmart and Trader Joe’s will be closed on Thanksgiving Day to give employees time with their families—other grocery stores will operate on shorter hours to meet holiday shopping needs. Shoppers must arrange their meal plans ahead of time as Walmart’s one-click Thanksgiving Meal Basket option will not be available on that day. KIDO

- ➤ IdahoEdNews reported that permanent state budget cuts force universities to cut jobs and programs as the state faces a $56 million deficit and $13.3 million in cuts; Boise State, University of Idaho and Idaho State University will lose the most funding—smaller schools like College of Southern Idaho and North Idaho College will be affected, too. KBOI
- ➤ Idaho law sets the public school age limit at 21, so students in Boise can attend high school or choose alternatives like Frank Church High School and Boise Evening School if they need flexible schedules. A case in Ohio raised questions about age limits, but nothing similar has been reported in Idaho and those over 21 can earn a GED or adult diploma. KIDO
GOVERNMENT NEWS

- ➤ The Catholic community in Idaho is urging Congress to pass the Religious Workforce Protection Act—bipartisan proposals S. 1298 and H.R. 2672 would extend R-1 visa terms to help foreign-born priests keep serving, as the Diocese of Boise, with 79 active priests including many from abroad, faces risks of losing clergy due to visa expirations. Church leaders warn that without change, more priests may be forced to leave, prompting calls for local and national action. Local News 8
