  • A community fundraiser supporting Sweet Zola's, a candy shop run by people with developmental disabilities, is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 25 at 12 p.m. at Kerry Hill Winery — teams will compete in a grape-stomping contest while guests enjoy wine tasting, live music, food trucks and raffles to raise funds.  KBOI

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Today the Idaho $1,000,000 Raffle began its nineteenth year, offering two guaranteed top prizes of $1,000,000 each and starting ticket sales at 4:00 a.m. with 500,000 tickets at $10 apiece. Lottery Director Andrew Arulanandam urged players to act quickly+ the raffle also offers over 21,500 additional prizes including a $100,000 prize, a $50,000 prize, and daily $1,000 draws during the first 15 days.  KBOI

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • AccuWeather forecasts a Halloween in Boise with a high of 55º, a low of 38º — and a 55% chance of rain in the evening, so trick-or-treaters may need extra layers. Other Idaho cities face mixed conditions with early showers or snow and calmer weather later for trick-or-treating.  KIDO

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Idaho SNAP beneficiaries and retailers face possible delays in November food stamp benefits due to a federal shutdown—IDHW says it will work with federal partners and the EBT vendor to reduce disruption. Customer service wait times have increased, and people are advised to visit local food banks, food pantries, or soup kitchens for urgent needs.  KBOI
  • Meridian and Star City councils opened their meetings on October 21 with Hindu mantras for the first time—replacing the usual Christian prayer. Rajan Zed, president of the Universal Society of Hinduism, recited ancient Sanskrit scriptures and gave an English interpretation to mark the historic moment.  KBOI

  • Boise State beat UNLV on The Blue (their home field) and the win moved them up to 33rd nationally with 4 votes in Week 9 poll, bringing them closer to the College Football Playoffs. The Broncos will play San Diego State (a key matchup) as they aim to strengthen their season.  KIDO
