COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Yesterday, the first phase of a two-phase project was completed on October 9—installing a new boat ramp at Celebration Park to boost boating amenities. The project used a $600,000 grant and will begin the next phase soon with an estimated cost of about $275,000.  KBOI

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Costco in Boise has added a new caramel brownie sundae to its food court menu for $2.99, and shoppers are praising the treat online—this follows an earlier shift from Pepsi to Coke products that also drew strong reactions.  KIDO
  • The Village at Meridian will host three new retailers in October as Barnes and Noble opens on October 15 at 10 a.m. with a ribbon cutting by local author Raegan Fordemwalt, Nordstrom Rack launches on October 23 with early promotions, and Zao Modern Asian opens on October 11 in the old Duck Donuts space — boosting options at the shopping center.  KIDO

  • Fred Armisen, known from Saturday Night Live, announced his upcoming show+Comedy for Musicians But Everyone is Welcome+ at the Egyptian Theatre in downtown Boise for November 12th. Tickets are nearly sold out as locals look forward to the event.  KIDO

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Residents in Eagle, Boise, Meridian and Nampa are urged to join local leaf recycling programs as fall colors sweep Treasure Valley—Eagle offers drop-offs from Oct.6 to Dec.15 with curbside pickup from Nov.3 to Nov.28 while Boise, Meridian and Nampa provide designated drop-off options and scheduled events through December.  KBOI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Idaho keeps marijuana illegal today, and although many cannabis supporters hope for a change, lawmakers have not signaled that legalization will occur in 2026 (making the state one of only four that still bans all forms of cannabis).  KIDO
  • On Thursday, October 9, Boise Airport reported normal operations even as travelers voiced concerns about TSA and air traffic control staffing shortages amid the government shutdown—experts warn that issues at larger hubs could lead to wider travel delays.  KBOI

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Boise’s Simply Cats shelter is part of #EmptyTheShelters and is offering BOGO kittens and reduced adoption fees for teens and adults through October 15 to help local families add a pet. The shelter ensures every cat is spayed/neutered—fully vaccinated, microchipped and treated for parasites to set new owners up for success.  KIDO

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • City and county officials — along with private developer J. Fisher Companies — gathered Thursday for a groundbreaking ceremony on Boise’s west bench that will bring over 200 affordable apartments to the area. The project will address local housing needs and begin construction soon.  Idaho Press

  • Boise State announced that the 2026 Banana Ball World Tour will take over Albertsons Stadium on July 31 and August 1, with the Texas Tailgaters playing the Party Animals. Fans can join the ticket lottery through October 31 and have a chance to purchase tickets starting at $35 while meet-and-greet options are available starting at $100.  KIDO
  • Firebird Raceway will host its 31st annual Halloween Classic tomorrow—drawing over 600 cars from 16 states and Canada for a day of drag racing and a family-friendly trunk 'er treat.  KBOI
