COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local nonprofit Astegos stepped in to restock the nearly empty school pantry at Horseshoe Bend Elementary, which provides vital snacks for students attending a four-day week. Principal Cora Larson said the program needs donations of nutritious foods like cheese sticks, fresh fruit and yogurt—ensuring students can focus on learning.  KBOI
  • Radio Boise will host its Fall Radiothon from October 8th to 21st to raise funds for new equipment and programs. Listeners can donate early or sign up to volunteer to help keep the station running — their support will fuel the next phase of independent radio in Boise.  Radio Boise

  • The United States Postal Service announced that starting October 5, Idahoans sending packages via Priority Mail, Ground Advantage, Parcel Select, or Priority Mail Express will face new temporary rates until January 18 to help cover extra handling costs—supporting its long-term Delivering for America Plan.  KIDO
  • A recent ranking by TCMA Conseil named a popular Idaho coffee chain as the worst in America—local favorites like Dutch and Human Bean keep serving quality coffee while more young people choose energy drinks. The study points to a changing coffee culture that may soon impact local cafes.  KIDO

CULTURE NEWS

  • Spoonful Night will be held November 21 at Treefort Music Hall where a lineup curated by Spoonful host Jason Beek will feature Tater Patch, Charlie & the Changelings, Buddy DeVore & The Faded Cowboys, and Eilen Jewell—this fundraiser concert supports Radio Boise and will bring local music fans together.  Radio Boise
  • A rare video shows the 1991 River Giants Parade where 45 to 75 large helium balloons float down Capitol Boulevard in downtown Boise as part of the old Boise River Festival that ended in 2003. The footage shows familiar characters—like Popeye, Dennis the Menace, and Tom & Jerry—that bring back memories for local residents.  KIDO

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, shovels broke ground on the expansion of the Idaho State Veterans Home in Boise as the state fulfills its 130-year promise to care for veterans—adding 122 rooms and baths funded by Gov Brad Little's Leading Idaho initiative. The four-story facility will include independent amenities such as a chapel, theater, and bistro and is set to complete by spring 2028.  KBOI

  • As fall sets in, Idaho residents are warned that dangerous spiders such as black widows, hobo spiders & black-footed yellow sac spiders may be entering homes for shelter, posing a risk to people and pets.
