COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Our Path Home released its Point-In-Time report showing a roughly 2% drop in Ada County homelessness compared to last year. The January survey counted 543 people in emergency shelters—103 in transitional housing and 126 unsheltered, even though more residents reached out for crisis help throughout the month.  KBOI

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Three BoDo Block restaurants in downtown Boise announced closures this week—Kichii Sushi and El Tejano have already closed while a third location will soon shut its doors.  Idaho Press
  • After over 30 years of serving its Famous Prime Rib, Westside Drive-In in Boise announced it will discontinue the dish due to rising beef costs—customers have until Saturday, Oct. 4 to order the final servings.  KBOI
  • Today, Sockeye Brewing announced it closed the restaurant portion of its Alehouse on N Garden Center Way while keeping the space available for private events. The company said it will focus on its Fairview location—which offers over 30 beers on tap, a dog—friendly patio, a refreshed menu and upcoming events.  KBOI

CULTURE NEWS

  • The third annual Idaho Cider Fest, the only festival in Idaho devoted exclusively to cider, will take place in downtown Boise on Saturday, Oct. 4, from noon to 6 p.m.  Idaho Press
  • Danielle Jordan from Meridian will compete on Wheel of Fortune today at 6:30 p.m. on CBS2—viewers are invited to watch her game show appearance.  KBOI

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Yesterday, leaders gathered at the Zions Infrastructure Conference at West Ada School District headquarters to discuss how rapid population growth strained funding for roads, water, and electricity—Zions Bank Chief Economist Robert Spendlove noted that while the economy stayed strong, challenges remained; Superintendent Debbie Critchfield stressed that public school funding must improve to meet shifting enrollment needs.  KBOI

  • On Tuesday, Boise City Council denied a neighborhood appeal that cleared the path for Interfaith Sanctuary to open a 24-hour shelter home on State Street—advancing final relocation steps.  Idaho Press
  • Boise’s $30.4 million property tax increase will fund pre-K programs and support for at-risk students in the Boise School District.  Idaho Press

  • On Saturday afternoon, Boise State will play Notre Dame in South Bend at 1:30 p.m. local time—fans believe the Broncos will win if quarterback Maddux Madsen leads effectively and the defense keeps turnovers low.  KIDO
