- ➤ Mattress Land’s parent company closed its Idaho stores earlier this summer as it filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy and began liquidating assets—leaving locations in Meridian, Nampa and Coeur d’Alene. KIDO
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Nampa Police reported that on Friday at 9:10 a.m. shots were fired in the parking lot of a hotel on East Flamingo Avenue where officers found a man fatally wounded and identified the suspect as 33-year-old Saengutone Ty Maria—he fled in a black 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche with license 2CBW24P and is still considered armed and dangerous. - ➤ Shasta Groene has shared her story in her new book Out of the Woods: A Girl, a Killer, and a Lifelong Struggle to Find the Way Home, detailing her survival from a horrific crime and the challenge of recovery; she will sign the book in Boise on Sunday, Aug. 10 at 2 p.m.—at Barnes & Noble Booksellers. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Governor Brad Little approved the Idaho National Guard to assist ICE with administrative work so that ICE can focus more on law enforcement. Up to 14 Guard personnel—federally funded and under his command—will work with local ICE offices until November 15. KBOI
- ➤ Today, Judge David Nye denied a request for a preliminary injunction against Idaho's law that requires public schools to have sex-specific restrooms, stating the law protects student privacy— the ruling ensures schools will continue to offer separate facilities with optional single-occupancy alternatives.
