- ➤ Boise’s 19-year-old indie bookstore, Whirlwind, has moved to a new downtown location and undergone major changes over the last 18 months—locals can now enjoy its refreshed experience. Idaho Press
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ A recent SmartAsset study shows a single person in Idaho must earn $96,429 to live alone comfortably, which is $52,659 more than the median non-family income ($43,770). The study used a 50/30/20 budget (50% for needs, 30% for extras, and 20% for savings) in its calculation. KIDO
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Last week, Boise City Council adopted an ordinance that urges greenbelt users to control their speed—if not, they may face penalties. The measure will take effect soon to help keep the area safe. Idaho Press
- ➤ State officials approved a $15M grant to begin Idaho’s transition to a statewide 911 system — the funding will modernize emergency response services. Idaho Press
- ➤ Idaho approved funding for Next Generation 911 to modernize emergency services by replacing the old analog system with a digital network that can receive texts, photos and real-time location data — counties will begin a phased rollout using $15 million from a phone bill surcharge along with $1.33 million for GIS projects. This upgrade aims to better connect all 911 call centers, ensuring faster and more secure emergency response. Local News 8
