COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Visitors at Barber Park will not have access to free air pumps as they were permanently removed during the COVID-19 pandemic—park improvements have since improved safety and reduced crowding. Guests planning to float on the Boise River should bring personal pumping equipment since outdated websites may still claim the pumps are available. KIDO
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Judge Steven Hippler set Brian Kohberger’s trial for August 11th in Ada County despite his defense team's request for a delay after leaked evidence was reported in a Dateline NBC episode, and he said the trial is likely to proceed as scheduled. KIDO
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Officials reported that warning signs are posted at Esther Simplot Park Pond 1 after water tests found E. coli bacteria above state standards — while other areas, like Quinn's Pond and the children's beach, remain within safe levels — and urged visitors to check warnings before entering the water. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Tuesday, June 24, Boise City Council approved changes to city code to adopt Senate Bill 1141 that makes public camping violations an infraction & imposes a $10 penalty. The code update lets the city comply with state law that takes effect July 1. KBOI
- ➤ The city of Boise updated its city code Tuesday to impose a $10 fine for sleeping or camping in public to comply with a state law that will take effect next week. Idaho Press
- ➤ Idaho senators and the Boise mayor oppose a Senate proposal to sell millions of acres of public lands across the West (the measure now appears in jeopardy) as congressional review continues. Idaho Press
- ➤ Former Boise City Council member Lisa Sanchez lost her bid for compensation after the Idaho Supreme Court ruled she did not meet the residency requirement in District 3. Sanchez moved out before returning too late and her appeal for lost wages and due process was denied—upholding state law. KBOI
- ➤ The Idaho Supreme Court dismissed a lawsuit filed by former Boise City Council member Lisa Sánchez who lost her seat in 2023. City leaders will enforce House Bill 1141—known as the Galloway Law—next week by imposing a $10 penalty for public camping and expanding affordable housing and supportive services. KBOI
