BUSINESS NEWS

  • An electric Dodge Charger Daytona is under recall because its speaker, which emits exhaust-like sounds to warn pedestrians, is not working—posing a safety risk in Idaho. Toyota and Kia have also issued recalls for several models, so owners should check with local dealerships for repairs.  KIDO

CRIME NEWS

  • The trial for the stabbing deaths of four college students in Idaho may be delayed again as the defense requested more time — with jury selection scheduled in less than six weeks.  Idaho Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Boise Music Festival will take place on Saturday, June 21 at Expo Idaho and will feature local and nationally known artists, food, and a carnival for kids—weather forecasts predict a comfortable high near 66 degrees with a slight chance of showers.  KIDO
  • The historic Opaline Schoolhouse across from Albertsons Stadium on the Boise State campus has reopened today after major restoration. The work preserved original slate chalkboards and hardwood floors while adding updates—such as air conditioning and a raised ceiling—to prepare the space for community events.  KBOI
  • A Caldwell restaurant chef won Idaho’s second-ever James Beard Award on Saturday—earning statewide recognition for his work in the culinary field.  Idaho Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Doug Holloway, the longtime Boise Parks and Recreation Director—who started working in parks as a summer job when he was a teen—is retiring from his job after many years of service.  Idaho Press
  • Idaho’s long-established no touch law makes it illegal to hold or use a cellphone while driving—including at stoplights—and fines range from $75 for a first offense up to $300 for a third offense, with three or more violations possibly leading to a 90-day license suspension—first violations do not affect insurance if no accident occurs.  KIDO
  • A controversial proposal in Congress may sell up to 22 million acres in Idaho and almost 15 million acres in Wyoming, as part of a bill that would dispose of public lands in 11 western states over the next five years. Conservation groups — such as the Greater Yellowstone Coalition and Idaho Conservation League — urged residents to contact their lawmakers if the plan moves forward.  Local News 8
