ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Idaho ranchers Lynn and Glenna Rasmussen filed a lawsuit against Simplot for a toxic spill from a phosphate slurry pipeline that contaminated water in Caribou National Forest in September 2023. They claim the spill harmed their cattle operation and are seeking $29.5 million in damages + $250 million in punitive damages for deliberate and outrageous conduct. KIDO

- ➤ On Friday, Idaho's health department sent its request to the federal government to ban the use of SNAP benefits for buying candy and soda—an effort aimed at promoting healthier food choices. Idaho Press
- ➤ John Evans, the Garden City mayor for 20 years, said he will not run for reelection—he feels it is time to retire. Garden City will soon begin plans to find a new leader. Idaho Press
