COMMUNITY NEWS

  • State agencies — including the Idaho Department of Correction, Idaho State Police and Ada County Sheriff's Office — held a candlelight vigil on Thursday, May 7 to honor fallen officers who gave their lives in service.  KBOI
  • Eagle Saturday Market opened last Saturday in Eagle and offers local food, handmade goods & live music for community members. The seasonal market will run throughout summer as shoppers enjoy its lively atmosphere.  KIDO
  • A weekly language exchange at JUMP brings together people to practice new languages in a welcoming setting. The free + open event meets every Wednesday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the JUMP lobby.  KBOI
  • Idaho shelters reached no kill status by meeting a 90% leave rate and using euthanasia only when animals suffer incurably (for example, severe injuries or illnesses).   • Alaska Airlines announced a direct seasonal flight from Boise to Sonoma, a renowned wine region, that will operate from Nov. 1 through Apr. 19, 2027. Passengers may enjoy a nonstop route with more travel options this winter.  KIDO
  • Main Auction — a family-run business with nearly 90-year legacy on Main St. — will hold its final live auction Saturday, May 16 before its longtime building is demolished for a new parking lot. ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Idaho rose 13 cents last week to an average of $4.46 per gallon, according to AAA, with rates from $4.32 in Rexburg to $4.57 in Lewiston & residents urged to use reward programs for summer travel planning.  Local News 8

  • Boise Airport launched BOI Upgrade, a multi-year program to add up to 10 new gates and invest $3M to $5M in public art at Concourse A. Artists may apply for a glass mosaic and suspension installations during Zoom sessions on May 20 and May 21 at 12 p.m.  KBOI

HEALTH NEWS

  • The USDA issued a public health alert for Idaho Walmart products from Great Value and Pork King Good that may contain salmonella. Consumers were advised to check labels and return items since the recall began on April 30 and the product list may grow.  KIDO

  • Local families can explore five scenic road trips to enjoy summer views and activities (including stops at Green Acres Food Truck Park and Boise Hawks venues) across the state. The guide encourages residents to take a break and experience Idaho’s natural beauty.  KIDO

  • Big Cat of Barstool Sports purchased the 10 yard line from Boise Blue Turf — a local icon — as Boise State prepares for its upcoming Pac-12 season and will install it at his Chicago office.  KIDO
  • Boise State basketball will face Nebraska in Sioux Falls this November as announced by coach Leon Rice. The team prepares to join the Pac-12 on July 1 + the matchup is seen as a boost to its profile.  KIDO
