- ➤ On May 3, Operation Homefront delivered meal kits and grocery gift cards to 100 military families from Mountain Home Air Force Base and local National Guard and Reserve units at a Meridian facility + the program helped ease the burden of rising food costs that have increased 28% over the past five years. The nonprofit has supported military families with similar programs since 2010. KBOI
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On Friday, a fatal crash on Highway 20 near Yellowstone killed 7 people when a Mercedes van carrying 14 travelers crashed; the driver was licensed in California — the passengers included 12 individuals from China and one from Italy — and next-of-kin notifications are ongoing while the deceased are being transported to the Ada County Coroner’s Office for autopsy as investigators work with consulates and tour operator Ctour Holiday LLC. - ➤ Zoo Boise mourned the loss of its beloved striped hyena Ndale—who was euthanized due to age-related quality of life concerns—after more than 20 years of life that touched staff and visitors alike, and he was also featured in National Geographic’s Photo Ark project. KBOI
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Scientists warned that a massive quake from Washington could occur soon and damage local highways and railroads — disrupting travel as concerns for commerce grow. They noted that a larger amount of Idaho produce will leave the Port of Lewiston — heading west amid potential structural impacts. KIDO
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Idaho Transportation Department announced that westbound I-84 between the Garrity and Ten Mile interchanges will be closed overnight Wednesday from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. to install a large crane and begin a new phase of construction at the I-84/State Highway 16 interchange—motorists should plan detours and expect reduced speeds during nightly lane restrictions. - ➤ Starting Monday, State Street will be closed between Olde Park Place and Eagle Road for mobility improvements as part of the Downtown Eagle project run by the Ada County Highway District— the closure will last until the end of May. Commuters are advised to use Eagle Road and Aikens Road as detours, while 1st Street has been converted into a two-way street to maintain access to nearby businesses and residences. KBOI
