COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The City of Boise announced that all local splash pads will open on Memorial Day, May 26 for summer water play. Families can visit parks like Ann Morrison & Borah where the splash pads are open from sunrise to sunset.  KIDO

BUSINESS NEWS

  • General Motors announced a recall for eight vehicle models in Idaho due to defects in engine parts that may cause engine damage and failure. Nearly 600,000 affected drivers are advised to check for unusual noises or a check engine light — signs that could increase crash risks.  KIDO

CRIME NEWS

  • Bryan Kohberger, accused of fatally stabbing four University of Idaho students at an off-campus rental in Moscow on Nov. 13, is set to face trial beginning Aug. 11—jury selection is scheduled for July 30 and he faces the death penalty if convicted.  KBOI
  • Danielle Painter, the former clerk of New Plymouth, pleaded guilty to wire fraud for using city credit cards for personal purchases from 2017 to 2023 — she will be sentenced on August 5 and could face up to 20 years in prison, a fine, and supervised release.  KBOI

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Idaho State Board of Education approved a 3.5% tuition and fee hike for the 2025-26 academic year at the state’s four-year colleges, with Boise State tuition rising from $9,048 to $9,364 as other schools also see increases. Board President Kurt Liebich announced new leadership changes — naming Dr. Jeremiah Shinn as Boise State’s interim president — and the board will hold its next meeting on June 17-18 at Idaho State University in Pocatello.  KBOI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Boise City Council voted to change the city code so it can review land use cases that were once decided by the Planning and Zoning Commission. The amendment came after a January ruling by the Idaho Supreme Court over a permit for Interfaith Sanctuary's homeless shelter and has drawn public criticism.  KBOI
  • The Boise City Council will vote on Tuesday, May 6 on a resolution to make the flags at City Hall official — including the pride flag that has flown for nearly 10 years — to follow state law HB 96. City leaders say the move will clear up confusion over which flags can be flown.  KBOI

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Today at Spitfire Tacos and Tequila in downtown Eagle, the bar opens its weekend-long Cinco de Mayo bash — starting with happy hour at 3:00 p.m. The event will offer drink specials, games, and prizes through Monday — giving locals a festive way to relax.  KIDO

SPORTS NEWS

  • Ashton Jeanty—a Boise State running back—was drafted 6th overall by the Las Vegas Raiders, ending his college career. Local fans are excited as he plans to wear his college number 2 in the NFL.  KIDO
