COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Today, people gather at Ann Morrison Park for a Boise Bicycle Project event that features a bike giveaway and bike safety courses as part of the expanded Shifting Gears program (designed to increase women’s participation and peer mentorship for those re-entering society). The project expands its efforts after a report by the Idaho Justice Project found Idaho has the highest rate of women’s incarceration, aiming to broaden community support. KBOI
- ➤ Green Acres Food Truck Park returns for its 5th season at 1401 W. Shoreline Dr. and will be open today through May 4 with 15 food trucks and 7 live music shows — along with yard games for extra fun. KBOI
- ➤ The Boise Fire Department urges residents—especially those near wildland areas—to prepare for wildfire season ahead of National Wildfire Community Preparedness Day on May 3 by clearing debris and trimming trees. They offer free safety assessments and a chipping program to help reduce wildfire risk in vulnerable neighborhoods. KBOI

- ➤ Shaun Knapp, owner of The Live Edge, says a road closure for more than two weeks has cut off access to his business on 515 W. Highland St. — he offers steep discounts and stays open until 11:00 pm to serve night shift workers. KBOI
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Governor Brad Little has directed that all state and national flags will be lowered to half-staff on May 4 to honor the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service and the Honor Roll naming firefighters who died in 2024 and earlier. The directive honors local heroes such as former Boise Fire Department member Kent B. Gilbertson—who died from cancer in 2022 after 30 years of service. Local News 8
- ➤ Garden City Mayor John Evans announced he will not run for re-election this November after serving five terms in office—he began his role in January 2006 after ten years on the city council—and he reflected on the honor of serving the town. KBOI
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Leapfrog Group released its hospital safety rankings for spring 2025 showing that four of Idaho’s 14 hospitals earned an A grade—St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, West Valley Medical Center, St. Luke’s Meridian Medical Center, and St. Luke’s Boise Medical Center. The rankings measured factors such as surgical outcomes and staff communication — areas where many facilities must improve to boost patient safety. KIDO
