COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Lady, a 20-year-old senior cat, is seeking a forever home to enjoy her golden years with plenty of cuddles despite her past eye removal for cancer. She is microchipped, spayed, and up to date on vaccinations and is available for adoption at Idaho Humane Society (1300 S. Bird Street).  KBOI

CULTURE NEWS

  • Nathan Kress — known for playing Freddie Benson on iCarly — will come to Boise for Nostalgia Con on May 24th and May 25th. The free event will feature celebrity guests, artists and vendors celebrating the 90s and early 2000s.  KIDO
  • This week, the retired U.S. Assay Office in downtown Boise will host a celebration of archaeology and historic preservation—highlighting Idaho’s rich past.  Idaho Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Boise Avenue is closed today between Protest Road and Broadway Avenue as the City of Boise begins emergency sewer repairs for a failing line north of Highland Street—local access is maintained though through traffic is blocked. The road is scheduled to reopen by the end of day Friday—drivers are advised to plan alternate routes until repairs are complete.  KBOI
  • Idaho Fish and Game announced that applications for fall controlled hunts will begin May 1 and run until June 5 for deer, elk, pronghorn, and other key species — hunters must hold a valid 2025 license to apply online, at a vendor, or by calling the office. The agency also noted that the Super Hunt drawing, which supports sportsmen's access programs, will accept entries until May 31.  KIDO
  • A federal judge issued a temporary hold on all state executions, ordering the corrections department to upgrade the execution wing so witnesses can view the Medical Team Room (where staff prepares lethal injections) along with the usual areas. News media organizations filed a lawsuit arguing that full access to all parts of the process helps the public understand the execution procedure better.  Local News 8
  • The governor said that fewer substances such as mysterious white powders and counterfeit pills have tested positive for fentanyl in Idaho this year—state officials credit improved testing and awareness for the drop.  Idaho Press

SPORTS NEWS

  • Ahmed Hassanein, a Boise State defensive lineman, was picked 196th overall by the Detroit Lions and is expected to sign a rookie contract worth over 4 million dollars, making him the first Egyptian in the NFL. He impressed at the NFL Combine by barking back at coaches and later proposed to his girlfriend, a moment that has captured local attention.  KIDO
