- ➤ Japanese beef import buyers visited Idaho facilities to inspect the entire supply chain from ranching to retail, including stops at Agri Beef's feedyard in Parma and True West Beef in Jerome—underscoring the industry's reliance on the Japanese market for exports. KIDO
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A judge ruled Thursday that prosecutors may pursue the death penalty for Bryan Kohberger if convicted of killing four University of Idaho students in 2022—his autism diagnosis does not remove capital punishment as a possible penalty. KSL
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Egg prices in Boise have jumped 60% from a year ago and averaged about 6.22 per dozen in March—prices that are expected to rise further as the month ends. Shoppers may need to check local deals as rising costs continue to affect budgets. KIDO
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Boise School District announced it will offer free meals to students ages 1–18 this summer through the Summer Food Service Program regardless of income or enrollment status—despite some locals opposing the plan. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Idaho's snowpack remained above normal despite warmer daytime highs—Erin Whorton with NRCS reported that northern areas experienced wetter conditions and better snowpack than last year while the Boise system underwent flood risk management—and reservoir storage stayed strong with the upper Snake system 86% full and cool nights helping rivers absorb the melt. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Idaho State Legislature passed Senate Bill 1141 to ban public sleeping in cities with over 100,000 people, including Boise, and the law will take effect July 1st, 2025—anyone caught sleeping outdoors after that time will be ticketed. KIDO
- ➤ The Idaho Transportation Department warns drivers that if they do not remove their studded tires by April 30 they will face a $67 fine—this rule aims to lessen road wear and noise after winter. Drivers are advised to have the tires professionally removed to avoid the penalty. KIDO
- ➤ Idaho residents should upgrade their ID if they plan to board a plane or enter a federal building because a REAL ID—compliant STAR Card will be required after May 7th for these activities. Some DMV offices require appointments while others accept walk in visits to complete the upgrade. KIDO
