Good morning, Boise. Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 12th of April.

COMMUNITY NEWS

CRIME NEWS

  • On Thursday morning at 7:41 a.m., Idaho Humane Society found two stressed dogs, Milo and Mali, abandoned inside a crate on their property (the animals are not microchipped and staff are asking anyone with information to come forward).  KIDO
  • Boise Police reported an 84-year-old man named Anthony was last seen Wednesday at 9 p.m. leaving a business on the 9900 block of West Fairview Avenue while wearing a black jacket, blue jeans, and white tennis shoes and saying he would walk home but never returned; officers are checking his usual spots and ask anyone with information to call Ada County Dispatch (208-377-6790).  KBOI
  • In Pocatello, the family of Victor Perez said he is clinically brain dead after being shot by police.  Idaho Press

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Recent reports show that Boise residents pay lower monthly electricity bills than most Americans, which adds to the city's appeal for young people, retirees and those seeking off-grid living. The same analysis found Boise ranked 58th for health and was counted among cities with high obesity rates — a reminder of mixed community challenges.  KIDO

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A list of Idaho’s 10 highest paid education leaders for 2024-2025 was released showing that each superintendent earns more than $180,000—more than the governor’s salary of $151,400. The data from Transparent Idaho explains how tax dollars support school leadership across the state.  KIDO

HEALTH NEWS

  • A United States Forest Service pamphlet warns Boise residents that 9 attractive yet toxic plants can cause severe illness or death when ingested or touched—this advisory comes as more people and pets enjoy spring and summer outdoor activities.  KIDO
  • Idaho is on high alert for a deadly yeast infection called Candida auris (a fungus that resists treatment) that can cause severe infections in patients at healthcare facilities; officials urge families to ask providers about screening (even if no symptoms are present).  KIDO

  • Downtown Boise's Coa De Jima is hosting 'Coa-Chella' this weekend—an event with loud DJ sets, tasty food and drinks, door prizes and a fun hangover brunch—and the festival runs from April 11th through April 13th.  KIDO
