- ➤ A 91-year-old smokejumper who completed 333 missions over three decades was honored by the Wildland Firefighter Foundation on Sunday — his long career in wildland firefighting was recognized for its impact on the community. Idaho Press
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Ada County Sheriff's Office detectives are reanalyzing evidence from Linda Hatfield’s 1984 disappearance from Garden City in hopes of finding new clues about her missing wedding ring set and remains—officials say the case turned homicide after she was last seen driving home from her shift. KBOI
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ On April 2, the Idaho Humanities Council was notified that the National Endowment for the Humanities canceled funding—against Congress’ will—for state humanities councils, forcing all IHC programs and grants to be paused until further notice. The council said it will update communities as more details become available. KBOI
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today, the Idaho House passed House Bill 472 which bans medical mandates in governments, schools, and businesses after an hour of heated debate — the vote was 46 to 21. The updated bill now heads to the Senate — where members will decide its future steps. Local News 8
- ➤ The City of Boise invites residents to vote on four final flag designs that emerged from nearly 140 submissions and extensive community input—voting is open now through April 18 for a design that reflects the city's shared values. KBOI
- ➤ Boise Fire Department said that a large smoke plume near the airport is due to live fire training exercises mandated by the FAA; the drills took place on April 2nd and 3rd and will resume on April 5th. Residents are reminded that the training is a routine practice to keep firefighters ready for emergencies — there is no need to fear the smoke. KIDO
- ➤ Idaho lawmakers signed a new anti-camping law that bans camping in the state's largest cities. Boise's mayor said he is reviewing the law and will announce his plans soon. Idaho Press
