CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Idahoans are warned to hang up immediately if a stranger says 'can you hear me'—scammers record a 'yes' reply to later make fraudulent charges—and the Better Business Bureau advises reporting these calls to help prevent further scams. KIDO
- ➤ Idaho lawmakers passed Senate Bill 1099 — a law that requires a minimum of five years in prison for vehicular manslaughter cases involving drivers with one DUI conviction and at least ten years for those with two or more — to deter impaired driving. KIDO
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Monday marks five years since a 6.5 earthquake hit 19 miles northwest of Stanley at 5:52 p.m. on March 31, 2020 — the quake shook the area for 10 seconds, breaking some windows and causing rockslides on Highway 21. More than 3,200 aftershocks were reported and over 39,000 people across the state felt the quake amid early Covid-19 cases and a heavy snowstorm that made field work difficult. KBOI

- ➤ Gov. Brad Little signed House Bill 83 into law, making unlawful entry a misdemeanor—if someone commits another crime it becomes a felony that may lead to federal deportation. The ACLU of Idaho filed a lawsuit arguing the law violates the Constitution—local groups say it conflicts with federal immigration rules. KBOI
- ➤ The section of the Boise River Greenbelt under Capitol Boulevard will close on March 31 for geothermal pipe repair—detours will be set up at the Boise State Friendship Bridge, Ann Morrison Park Pedestrian Bridge, and the 8th Street intersection near the Idaho Anne Frank Human Rights Memorial until repairs end the week of April 21. - ➤ After nearly six years away from ski racing, Lindsey Vonn earned a silver medal at the Sun Valley Super G finals on March 23, making her the oldest woman to medal in a skiing World Cup at 40.
