GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Idaho Power reached a tentative $800,000 settlement with the Department of Fish and Game over the Valley Fire that started on October 4 when a power line touched the ground and burned nearly 10,000 acres in the Boise River Wildlife Management Area. The settlement allows the company to rehabilitate the area — a key ecological zone for over 300 species — while not admitting liability.  KBOI
  • The House on Wednesday approved a bill that would let state agencies fight fires on federal lands and sue the federal government—meant to recover wildfire mitigation costs.  Idaho Press

HEALTH NEWS

  • Idaho faces a severe shortage of healthcare providers—data show as few as 6 primary care doctors per 10,000 people with a 22% loss in OB-GYNs that has left women's health vulnerable as some hospital labor units closed. The Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine is training new doctors while lawmakers consider an amendment to keep WWAMI seats open amid a rejected proposal to expand the Rural Physician Incentive Program.  KBOI
  • A well-known laundry detergent, Woolite Delicates, sold through Amazon in Idaho is recalled because it may be contaminated with harmful bacteria that can cause infections in people with weak immune systems — customers should mark the bottle as recalled and send a photo of the label and lot code to the manufacturer for a refund. The recall affects 50 ounce bottles purchased in January, and owners are advised to dispose of the product immediately.  KIDO
  • On Friday, the Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine held Match Day where soon-to-be doctors learned their residency placements as the school works to address Idaho's low doctor-to-patient ratio. The event marks a four-year effort to bring more primary care and rural health professionals to serve local communities.  KBOI
