COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A fireworks show injured a child at the Potato Drop on New Year's Eve, and city officials are reviewing safety measures along with a possible relocation + organizer Dylan Cline made harsh remarks about local leadership.  KIDO

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A planning permit was filed today to convert the former Sterling Urgent Care on Broadway into a fast-casual restaurant near BSU; the concept focuses on made-to-order chicken wings and fries with most sales expected from take-out and delivery (details remain in early planning stages).  KIDO
  • Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream is set to bring three new locations to the Treasure Valley, with the first opening at East Eagle Marketplace near Chick-Fil-A possibly as early as May or June. A second site in Nampa and a third in Meridian will follow later, with the Meridian location slated for 2027.  KIDO

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Idaho Supreme Court upheld the private education tax credit on Thursday, ruling it does not violate the rule that public schools be funded. The decision was unanimous, and the credit—passed last year under House Bill 93—covers tuition, books and other school costs.  Local News 8

  • Central District Health is investigating nine cases of illness from unpasteurized milk linked to a Caldwell dairy that hospitalized several Ada County children.  Idaho Press
