COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The Idaho Foodbank upgraded its communication and technology systems with multi-year funding from Google.org to better serve food-insecure neighbors across the state. The overhaul includes new hardware, software, and a full-time IT specialist to improve food distribution among over 400 community partners. KBOI
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Boise School District Board appointed Wendy Johnson as new superintendent effective July 1, 2026. She brings over 30 years in education and 11 years as Kuna’s superintendent after Lisa Roberts’ retirement (the decision followed a Jan. 29 interview). KBOI
- ➤ West Ada School District Board of Trustees approved new safety measures today to deploy Campus Sentinels and wearable alert technology at all 59 campuses — the plan follows a year-long review with law enforcement guidance and feedback from over 1,000 community members and will be implemented immediately. KBOI
- ➤ Idaho Superintendent Debbie Critchfield warned that a Joint Finance-Appropriations Committee memo calling for 1% and 2% funding cuts in the Department of Education & Department of Health and Welfare could worsen budget gaps affecting special education and force districts into emergency measures. A written response is expected by noon today. KBOI
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ With warm weather expected this weekend, Ridge to Rivers warns Boise Foothills trail users to avoid muddy paths that risk erosion and safety hazards (users should choose paved or all-weather routes). A trail repair project at Camel’s Back Park will begin in February and close a section for 18 days. KBOI

- ➤ Tuesday evening, Boise City Council voted to protect the rolling foothills along the northern edge, ending plans for future development. Idaho Press
LIFESTYLE NEWS
- ➤ Chits and Chats reopened on Overland Road in Boise in January after a temporary closure in 2025. The board game pub now offers a large library of games, locally owned drinks, and a homey food menu for residents to gather with family and friends. KIDO
- ➤ A new ranking lists Meridian (ranked #72), Idaho Falls (ranked #74), and Twin Falls (ranked #111) as top retirement spots in America, while Boise does not appear on the list. The ranking shows a shift in local retirement trends as other cities gain appeal. KIDO
