BUSINESS NEWS

  • Ford is recalling over 120,000 vehicles in Idaho due to defective engine block heaters that could cause a fire risk; owners of models like the Focus, Escape, Lincoln MKC, and Explorer should not plug in their heaters until free repairs are made at local dealerships.  KIDO

CRIME NEWS

  • Authorities have documented eight wasteful poaching cases over the last decade that have angered local residents & prompted calls to report suspicious activity through Citizens Against Poaching at 1-800-632-5999.  KIDO

CULTURE NEWS

  • Canyon County Fair announced its summer concert lineup featuring Jo Dee Messina on July 23, Kansas on July 24, and Clay Walker with Sawyer Brown on July 25 (Sunday details pending). Concerts are free, while reserved seats and pit passes are $39.55 in advance, rising on show day.  KIDO

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Gov. Little signed the Parental Choice Tax Credit bill to let parents choose alternative education — under debate — but its constitutionality is challenged in the Supreme Court as Rep. Bruce questions why students pay for remedial classes before college while schools risk a $22.3 million loss amid declining enrollment.  KIDO

  • Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson secured $6.4M for a new elementary school at Mountain Home Air Force Base (via H.R. 7148) to meet the needs of over 300 students, replacing an aging facility.  KBOI

  • The Idaho Botanical Garden is unveiling a new therapeutic garden for horticulture therapy, featuring ADA-accessible pathways and raised beds (supported by grants and private donations) to provide alternative healing. The garden will offer a peaceful space for visitors to connect with nature.  KBOI

SPORTS NEWS

  • Two former Boise State Broncos, Demarcus Lawrence and George Holani, will compete with the Seattle Seahawks in the Super Bowl on Feb. 8 in San Francisco. They will aim for their first Super Bowl rings if the Seahawks win the game.  KIDO
