  • Twenty-four people plunged into the Snake River on Monday to honor Martin Luther King Jr. Day in Idaho Falls. Patrick Toussaint read from King’s 'I Have a Dream' address and shared his experiences with racism in Florida - marking a local act of unity.  Local News 8
  • Idaho Humane Society is out of wet dog food and is asking local residents to donate supplies via Amazon + Chewy Wish lists or drop them off at the Dorman Campus at 4775 W Dorman Street to help feed shelter animals.  KIDO

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • After a malfunctioning fireworks display at the Idaho Potato Drop injured local toddler Bella and shattered windows, community funds via GoFundMe have now exceeded $30,000 to cover her extensive surgery, while Boise police + fire continue to investigate the incident.  KIDO

  • Francesca’s will close soon at Boise Towne Square Mall amid financial issues & unpaid invoices; the store plans to liquidate its inventory and may file for bankruptcy once courts reopen after MLK Day.  KIDO

  • McCall Winter Carnival returns to a 10-day format Jan. 30-Feb. 8 with schedule changes at key events. The Mardi Gras Parade is on Saturday, Feb. 7 at noon and fireworks will light Payette Lake on Jan. 31 (7 p.m.) and Feb. 7 (7 p.m.).  KIDO
  • Zoo Boise announced today that a rare wolverine has joined its animal family, and the new arrival is expected to boost conservation education for visitors + encourage local wildlife awareness.  Idaho Press
  • Neighbors gathered at the state capitol Monday, Jan. 19 to celebrate Idaho Human Rights Day (39th anniversary) as Idaho has recognized Martin Luther King Jr. Day since 1990 when it became the 47th state to do so.  KBOI

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Idaho Botanical Garden is expanding over 10 acre to add improved parking, a teaching arboretum, and a fully accessible therapeutic garden to boost visitor experience and sustainability. The nonprofit seeks community support by asking for $50 donations to plant a tree (donations accepted on its website).  KBOI

  • Idaho lawmakers advanced House Concurrent Resolution RS 32992 to launch a yearlong celebration of the nation’s 250th anniversary with a goal of 250,000 acts of service, including a new song (Forever Idaho), Capitol displays of the Declaration of Independence, and tree planting statewide.  KBOI
