COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Idaho Girl Scouts of Silver Sage Council will introduce a new cookie flavor called Exploremores (inspired by Rocky Road ice cream) at local booths with sales beginning Feb. 20 and ending around Mar. 15.  KIDO
  • In the 15th annual Avenues for Hope Housing Challenge, 106 nonprofits raised a record $6.1 million to help nearly 10,000 Idahoans find housing assistance. Over 7,100 participants and 7,900 contributions powered the effort, with 54 nonprofits in Southwest Idaho led by Interfaith Sanctuary + LEAP Housing.  KBOI
  • The Canyon County Kids Expo will take place at Ford Idaho Center in Nampa later this month, where families can meet Paw Patrol characters Chase and Skye and enjoy jump houses + attractions throughout the day.  KIDO

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Idaho Transportation Department data from 2025 showed 208 fatal crashes on state roads + alcohol impairment played a role in over 20% of incidents, with speeding, inattention, and drowsiness contributing to the risks, prompting a reminder for drivers to slow down as winter weather looms.  KIDO

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Jackson Jet acquired the FBO operations at Reeder Jet Center at Magic Valley Regional Airport on Thursday, Jan. 8 in Twin Falls; the move marks its third location and is set to provide fuel services + aircraft support, hangar facilities, and passenger amenities to general and business aviation clients.  KBOI

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Idaho State Board of Education announced a $4 million federal grant to boost AI learning in public colleges and universities. The program (Accelerate Idaho) will fund statewide projects, expand access in rural areas, and requires legislative approval.  KBOI
  • Applications for Idaho’s school choice tax credit program will open next week, offering $50 million in state funds for nonpublic school expenses. Families can use the credit to help pay for tuition and fees at eligible schools.  Idaho Press
  • Debbie Critchfield, superintendent for public education in Idaho, announced her bid for another term on Thursday, Jan. 8; she highlighted gains in career and technical education in rural and underfunded districts and detailed plans to ease teacher hiring challenges through initiatives like a lifetime teaching certification option.  KBOI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A new law effective Jan. 1, 2026 — lets Boise residents opt in for text or email notifications on the Idaho DMV Online Portal to track towed vehicles; about 50 vehicles have already been registered.  KIDO
  • The Idaho Transportation Department said one of its trucks was hit while clearing snow, causing delays for drivers; the plow was not heavily damaged (operator remains safe) and motorists are reminded to stay 200 ft back.  KBOI

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • It’s A Crepe food truck has become a local hit with viral fruit pastries as customers lined up around the block; it will open Sunday, Jan. 11 (9688 W. Fairview Ave) from 3 pm to 5 pm until supplies run out.  KIDO

  • The NFL Fantasy Football Instagram account named Ashton Jeanty Rookie of the Year after he posted 5 touchdowns and averaged 14 points per game; online opinions are mixed and many fans expect him to improve next season as his team plans a rebuild.  KIDO
